Reaseheath have no answer to dominant Bishop Burton display

Bishop Burton College 14 Reaseheath College 0 (3rd March 2010)

Bishop Burton entertained Reasheath in a Northern Counties match in a reverse of the fixture the previous month. With a few absentees, Luke Duerden, Ben Asquith, Chris Young, Olly Burns and Nick Robinson were called up from the HE team. Bishop Burton started brightly with the front two of Olly Burns and James Webb causing problems at every opportunity possible. It was Webb who opened the scoring after a great through ball by Tom Chippendale. Bishop Burton dominated the opening stages and the back four of Luke Duerden, Ben Asquith, Nathan Bell and Louis Cooper were hardly tested. Dominance started to pay with 3 more goals in the next 20 minutes with strikes from Chippendale, Burns and Webb. Bishop were playing some really good football, a lot of it one and two touches, and the mixture of FE and HE players was really paying dividends. Reaseheath launched their first meaningful attack after half an hour but a good save from Alex Gill kept the score at 4-0. Reaseheath where beginning to argue amongst themselves and Bishop Burton took full advantage of this with 2 more goals in the next five minutes. The first was from the penalty spot, after some good work from Brad Delves down the left was halted by a foul from the Reaseheath full back. James Webb took the resulting penalty to complete his hat trick. The sixth goal was scored by substitute Nick Robinson with his first touch of the ball. He finished a flowing move down the right between Nathan Bell and Jamie Williamson.

The half-time whistle went with Bishop Burton winning 6-0, a score which they truly deserved after a great attacking performance. Although 6-0 up, Manager Mark Frampton challenged his team to play using only one and two touches each and attempting to keep the ball below head height. This allowed the game to stay at a high tempo and stopped players just running with the ball. A few subs were made to freshen up the game and they all put in great performances, especially right back Shaun Robson. The scoring continued with goals from Tom Chippendale, Jamie Williamson, James Webb and two from Olly Burns which made the score 11-0. Reaseheath created their best chance of the game when a mistake from defender Luke Duerden allowed the Reasheath striker to go through one on one with Alex Gill but Gill produced a great save to keep a clean sheet. The remaining 20 minutes produced another 3 goals, the pick of the bunch being from Nathan Bell, who hit a shot on the turn from 20 yards into the bottom corner, his first goal for the college. The final whistle blew with the score at 14-0, a bit of a one-sided game but a confidence boost for the lads. All credit must go to Reaseheath though who never gave in and fought right to the end; their attitude was a credit to their College.

Bishop Burton College named as regional centre for Modern Pentathlon

Bishop Burton College has been named as a Regional Training Centre for Modern Pentathlon and the two organisations – Bishop Burton College and Pentathlon GB, have announced that the College will host a Modern Pentathlon Training Camp at the beginning of August.

The Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon was first introduced at the 5th Olympiad in Stockholm in 1912 and comprises the contemporary sports of pistol shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running.

Peter Hart, the chief executive of Pentathlon GB paid a visit to the College to discuss the plans for creating a regional training centre for modern pentathlon including a training camp this summer.

Mr Hart said: “The College is a fantastic venue for pentathlon training with world-class facilities and we are delighted to work in partnership with Bishop Burton College, the students and community of Yorkshire in focussing our activities at the College.

“We are delighted to use the support we are receiving from Sport England to help us achieve this.”

Ann Marshall the regional development officer for Yorkshire continued: “By organising regular regional training at Bishop Burton College we can bring in world-class coaches for weekend or mid-week sessions and the athletes can train together as pentathletes rather than single-discipline athletes, which will benefit them enormously.

“The training camp which is planned for the summer will give regular athletes a concentrated opportunity to train in all five sports and will also be open to athletes from other parts of the country.”

Bishop Burton College’s director of sport Nick Gandy said “We have been working together for some time already and it was clear that a partnership would be of great mutual benefit and we are looking forward to working closely with Pentathlon GB and contributing towards Modern Pentathlon’s continued success at future Olympic Games.

“By establishing these links the athletes will benefit from the College’s fantastic resources and the learners will benefit by seeing the hard work and dedication of these sportsmen and women and perhaps by trying the sport themselves.”

New Basketball team at the College

Strong sports provision increases at Bishop Burton College with the creation of new basketball team

The number of team sports on offer at Bishop Burton has recently increased thanks to the creation of a brand new basketball team at the College.

The team will play a number of fixtures over the coming months within the Humber College League.

The new club, which was formed in September, was put together in response to increasing interest in the sport at the College and to reflect the diverse interests of Bishop Burton learners.

The College already has a number of successful sports teams including rugby, football, mixed hockey and ladies football.

Learner Peter Walker played a leading role in the creation of the Club by organising and running training sessions, as well as acting as player-coach.

The Club are now training twice a week and sports development officer Alison Day has been instrumental in producing a suitably challenging fixture list.

The College team played their first match at Hull College and competed extremely well until their more experienced hosts took control in the final quarter and ran out 61-45 winners.

The next match saw the College host its first basketball match and the team gained their first victory, by defeating East Riding College by 30-17.

Speaking after the match, player-coach Walker said: “Overall we played well, although we need to improve our shooting. It was really good to win our first ever home game.”

The College’s director of sport, Nick Gandy commented: “Peter has put in a huge amount of hard work to ensure that this new club would be successful.

“We are delighted to expand on the portfolio of sports that we can offer our students, and we are always receptive to student requests for more sporting choice.”

Bishop Burton Match Reports - 10/02/10

Basketball

On the 10th of February 2010 Bishop Burton College faced their first gruelling match against Hull College.

Unfortunately for the first ever Bishop Burton basketball team the final result did not equal the effort put in by the players.

In the first quarter Bishop Burton did not get off to a good start as Hull were six points to nothing until Bishop Burton switched gear with some great stops on defence which led to good offence by knocking down their shots.

Bishop Burton ended the first quarter with an 11-9 lead.

The second quarter followed with a good battle from both teams until Bishop Burton changed up the defence. This confused Hull as they could not cope with the great defence from Bishop Burton who were pressuring the ball and forcing some turnovers.

The big plays made by both the forwards Phil Buckley and Sean Johnstone making some great blocks. The game was still hard to call as the second quarter finished 24-17 to Bishop Burton.

After half time Bishop Burton had a few problems between the players, who by this time had become complacent.

Hull took advantage of this opportunity and changed the tempo of the game by forcing a full court press which caused a lot of turnovers by Bishop Burton that gave Hull more opportunities to score.

Bad defence from Bishop Burton did not help with their offense as the players seemed to be static with their movements. This ended the third quarter with the result being 46-32 to Hull College.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as Hull had the lead and the confidence whilst Bishop Burton could not get out of their slump on both sides of the court.

Hull College figured out how to get around the Bishop Burton defence by raining down threes from behind the arc which made things go from bad to worse on Bishops behalf.

The game then ended with a disappointing result for Bishop Burton as the final result was 61-45.

Bishop Burton vs Wyke College

The score against Wyke does not reflect the player's effort and also improvement from the previous match.

The match started off on a low as some of the girl's had to play out of their usual positions, this then affected the plays made.

During the first half the girls lacked the pace of the Wyke team, however with a change around in positions the teams confidence shot up, and soon got back to making fantastic plays.

With a tremendous effort from Becky Sutcliffe and Annabel Burnett in defence, Wyke was struggling to score.

Katie Burton moved positions to GA and scored the majority of the 10 with some fantastic plays with Demi Lidster.

Player of the Match was awarded by the Wyke team to Beth Jennings.
Great effort from all of the girls - unfortunately the result did not go our way.

Match Reports - 27th Ferbruary 2010

BISHOP BURTON V REASHEATH – FOOTBALL MATCH REPORT
Bishop Burton College football team travelled to Reaseheath College to play the 3rd match of this season’s Northern Counties League.

After two previous wins against Myerscough and Askham Bryan, the team knew that a victory here would stand them in good stead for the future matches. A squad of 13 was taken with everybody getting at least an hour’s playing time.

The game started badly for Bishop Burton as stand-in goalkeeper, James Webb was beaten with a shot from the edge of the area in the early minutes.
It got worse after 20 minutes when Reaseheath doubled their lead with a header in the top corner. Manager, Mark Frampton made a couple of changes in an attempt to get back in the game. Just minutes before half time, a long kick from James Webb was flicked on by Luke Thompson, and Tom Chippendale raced through to halve the lead.

The half-time whistle went just as a downpour began. Bishop Burton started the second half well with a number of corners, dangerously swung in by Jamie Williamson caused Reaseheath’s defence and goalkeeper major problems.

Unfortunately a goal failed to match the good build-up play. With half an hour left Bishop Burton turned up the heat and ripped apart the Reaseheath team with some stylish attacking play. Luke Thompson finished well into the bottom corner after some good build-up work from Gary Cawthorne and Rob Hodson.

The next 15 minutes produced further goals, with Luke Thompson adding a further two and Tom Chippendale doubling his account.

Jamie Williamson then scored the goal of the game, picking the ball up from 40 yards out he beat a couple of players then hit a right-foot shot into the top left-hand corner of the goal from 30 yards. A truly magnificent finish.

Williamson then swapped with James Webb in goal for the final ten minutes and it was Webb who completed the scoring with a good header into the top corner after great play down the right involving Brad Delves and Nathan Bell.

The back four of Bell, Blakeston, Martin and Sowersby were rarely troubled in the second half and are getting better and better each game they play together. In the end Bishop Burton deservedly won the game 7-2.

Final score: Bishop Burton College 7 Reaseheath 2
Hockey Match Report

Reaseheath College vs Bishop Burton College
Bishop Burton travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to play Reaseheath College and hoping for a win in their first game of 2010. Bishop Burton went with a strong team hoping to carry on their winning streak in the Northern Counties League.

Bishop Burton hit off the match against Reaseheath College and began strongly with good possession throughout the team. Bishop Burton then began to create chances and Ash Embank opened the scoring after taking on two players. Ewbank then got his second a couple of minutes later after hard work by Adam Barton.

Bishop Burton continued to pressure and the goals kept coming, with Olivia Byas getting the third for Bishop after strong work by Hans Coux.

Hard work by Jess Martin on the wing then set up Adam Barton for Bishop Burton’s fourth. Bishop Burton continued to press, holding Reaseheath in their own half, and after good play between Chris Bostwick and Peter Clowes Ash Ewbank was set up for his third. For the rest of the half Bishop Burton continued to press and goals from Jack Hardman, Adam Barton and Ash Ewbank took the score to 0-8 at half time.

After the hit off Bishop Burton kept on top, but being in such a comfortable position forget their defence and allowed Reaseheath to get a opportunity with an aerial, but Jack White chased back to get a strong tackle in to hold on to the clean sheet.

Bishop Burton then pushed on again with good play by Ash Ewbank to set up Olivia Byas for her second. The final goal of the game came after numerous efforts to get usual goalie Robert Knapton on the score sheet and he finally got his goal after some good work by Ash Ewbank.

At the final whistle the score was 0-10 after another strong performance from the Bishop Burton team against a poor Reaseheath team.

Final score: Bishop Burton 10 Reaseheath College 0
